Charles Plumier found during his stay in Haiti, from 1689 to 1697 the first Fuchsia.

He named the plant after the German phycician Leonard Fucs, Fuchsia triphylla flore coccinea.

The Fuchsia plant of Plumier himself  never arrived in Europe because  the ship has sunk on the way home with all the plantmaterial on board.

The time the first plant arrived in England must have been about between 1870 and 1890.
