Charles Plumier found during his stay in Haiti, from 1695 the first Fuchsia.
He named the plant after the German phycician Leonard Fucs, Fuchsia triphylla flore coccinea.
The Fuchsia plant of Plumier himself never arrived in Europe because the ship has sunk on the way home with all the plantmaterial on board.
